The flashing lamp for ambulances or fire engines has a tubular lamp (1) with electrodes (2, 3) connecting it to a printed circuit in the base (4). A rubber bush (5) fits over the end of the tubular lamp (1) and fits in the socket (6) forming part of the transparent housing. This rubber bush protects the lamp from shock and vibration. The light from the lamp is emitted in the vertical plane through the dome of the transparent housing without need for any special reflector. The light is spread in all directions in the horizontal plane by means of flutes (7) formed either on the inner or outer surfaces of the vertical wall of the transparent housing.
