Between a brake motor (2) and an output member (18) which outputs the application force, the application device has a wedge mechanism (19) with a rolling element which rolls on a wedge surface (19). As part of the wedge mechanism (19) there is a lever (15) which can be pivoted in the common plane of the direction of force of the brake motor (2) and the direction of the application force and is supported, at one end, at a fixed mounting point (14) and centrally on the output member (18). At the other end, the lever (15) is coupled via the wedge surface (19) and the rolling element to the brake motor (2). The output member (18) is kept free of transverse force components and, as a result, a high efficiency of the application device can be achieved. <IMAGE>
