Suppressing combustion of stored lignite fines - by mixing with a less combustible powder

Spontaneous combustion hazards during the storage of lignite fines are reduced by mixing with a finer powder of a difficultly inflammable and/or a non-inflammable material until the lignite particles are no longer visible. Lignite fines can be used as an inexpensive fuel, e.g. for power stations, in place of heavy fuel oil. The treatment is less expensive than storage under a protective gas and more effective than adding light fuel oil.
