Coating continuously moving glass ribbon - preventing warping by heating the undersurface of the ribbon during coating

In coating a glass ribbon which advances from a forming chamber (float chamber) to a coating zone where one surface is coated, warping of the ribbon is reduced by heating the other surface of the ribbon in the coating zone. Pref. the surface to be coated is heated by an infra red source between the forming chamber exit and the coating zone inlet. Used in coating glass ribbon with a pyrolytic oxide coating and then annealing the coated ribbon.
