The gear changer operating under a load includes a torque converter controlled by a servo for adjusting the rate of loading. The control system takes into account the operational parameters. The parameters include temperature, pressure and fluid level in the engine, converter, gearing and brake as well as in the steering mechanism. The signal from the sensors control the tilt of blades in the converter stator, and thus determine the transmitted torque. The shaft (1) of the torque converter is driven by the engine with the flywheel (2) attached to pump wheel (3). The pump wheel entrains the turbine (5) with the flow of the medium adjusted by the blades (4) of the stator. The gearbox houses hydraulically operated couplings for selecting the speed ratio. The position of blades (4) is set by a servo (18) controlled by a valve (17) whose solenoid (16) is energised by a relay (15) driven by amplifiers (10) which is fed by signals from the sensors.
