In the continuous alkylation of isobutane by an olefin, (a) the olefin is reacted with a molar excess of isobutane in presence of an acid, to give a liq. effluent; (b) the effluent is removed from the alkylation zone, and (c) (part of) the effluent is vapourised, to give vapours which are condensed by cooling in indirect heat-exchange with the effluent. The amt. of isobutane which has to be treated and recovered in the distn. column is greatly reduced. Cooling water is not needed for the head condenser of the distn. column. The columns operate at lower temp. than in prior art. |
