The 3-phase transformer core has its cross-section shaped for maximum use of material and consists of three rectangular rings placed side by side parallel to the sides of an imaginary equilateral triangle, and with their axes intersecting at a common point. Each ring is wound from metal tape and has its outer surface provided with a specified arrangement of flat slopes (I-IV) approximating to a bevel. The inner surfaces are cut across at an angle at the corners to form flat mating surfaces for the adjoining rings.
