An oil compsn. for cooling systems contains (a) a natural or synthetic lubricant base oil and (b) 0.01-10 (0.05-2) wt.% of a phosphorous tri-ester of formula (RO)3P (I) where each R is alkyl or (substd.) phenyl. Claimed oils are alkylbenzenes, alkylnaphthalenes, dicarboxylic acid esters, and polyalkylene glycols. The viscosity is 10-100 m2/second (cst) at 37.8 degrees C. and the oil is stable at up to 180 degrees C. Specific examples are toluene, dodecyl-benzene and -naphthalene, maleates, phthalates or glutarates of 2-ethylhexanol, isooctanol or sec. amyl alcohol, and polyalkylene glycols with 1-4C alkylene gps. and mol wt. 500-2000. Claimed esters include tri(m)-ethyl phosphite, tris-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphite, triphenyl phosphite, phenyl diisodecyl phosphite, and benzyl diethyl phosphite. The purity of the ester is 99 wt.%.
|
