The cigarette conveyor at the output of a cigarette making machine has a belt conveyor (2) against which the double lengths (11) are pushed by a reciprocating bar (6) driven by a parallel crank mechanism (5). They are then conveyed onwards to a suction drum (12) rotating about an axis parallel to the travel of the cigarettes. They are conveyed from the end of movement of the reciprocating bar to the suction pockets (13) on the drum by a rotating shaft (8) housed between the strands of the belt (2). This has a specially shaped slot which aligns the cigarettes with the suction pockets. The movement of the belt is slowed down during transfer.
