Dyeing of glass fibres, yarns or threads involves winding to a package, impregnating this with a dye liquor contg. a dyestuff-binder system and centrifuging and then drying and fixing the liquor applied. The prods. are used for making non-flammable fabrics for curtains and decorative materials, e.g. for public buildings, hospitals, etc. The process is relatively cheap and even small amts. of glass fibre material (including woven and knitted fabrics) can be provided with any required colour, in contrast to the limited number of colours that can be applied by printing. The liquor contains e.g. self-crosslinking acrylate binder, antimigration agent, antifoam, plasticiser, adhesion promoter and (pigment)dyestuff(s) and pref. an oil to improve the tensile strength of the fibres.
