[Also in Division D1] An aqueous liquor comprises a material made by mixing (a) a reaction product containing isocyanate groups and made from a polyisocyanate and an organic compound of M.W. 500 to 10,000 and containing at least 2 active H atoms, (b) an organopolysiloxane of M.W. up to 2,500 carrying at least 2 active H atoms and having the general formula R n SiO 4-n , wherein n is 2 greater than 1 and at most equal to 3, and each R is a radical R<SP>1</SP>, -X-Y or Y-X-Y, where R<SP>1</SP> is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical which may be inertly substituted, X is an aliphatic or araliphatic bivalent or trivalent hydrocarbon radical which may contain an ether, thioether or amino grouping, and Y is a hydroxyl, sulphohydryl, carboxyl or carbonamide group or a secondary amino group, with the proviso that at least two siloxane units correspond to the formula where m is 1 or 2, and the radicals R in the remaining units are exclusively R<SP>1</SP> radicals, and optionally (c) a polymer or copolymer prepared from a vinyl or divinyl monomer or monomers. Preferably the compounds (a) are reaction products of aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diisocyanates and diols, e.g. polyalkylene glycols, which may contain thioether groups, polyesters and polyacetals; other active - hydrogen - containing groups are -COOH, -SH and > N-H groups. Suitably (b) amounts to 1-20 equivalent per cent of (a), and the ratio (a) to (b) plus (c) is 1: 4 to 4: 1. Polymers (c) preferably contain groups reactive towards isocyanate; suitable monomers are listed. The liquor may contain 20-300 g.p.l. of (a) plus (b) plus (c), and may contain metal salt catalyst for accelerating reaction between (a) and (b). In examples, aqueous emulsions are prepared containing, per litre, 20-100 grams of a 50% emulsion in water/ ethyl acetate of the reaction product of hexamethylene diisocyanate and a polypropylene glycol of MW 2000; 15-100 grams of a 40% emulsion of a methylol-, hydroxybutyl- or butylaminomethyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane optionally mixed with a 60/30/10 butyl acrylate /styrene/acrylamide copolymer; optionally 60 grams of dimethylol ethyleneurea with MgCl 2 catalyst; and 0À2-0À5 grams of Zn(OOC.CH 3 ) 2 . These are used to treat various textiles.</p> |
