1,137,934. Ni-refractory oxide powder compositions. SHERRITT GORDON MINES Ltd. Jan.31, 1966 [Feb.12, 1965], No.27063/68. Divided out of 1,137, 932. Headings C7A and C7D. A nickel refractory oxide powder composition for making dispersion hardened nickel or nickel base alloy products (e.g. by powder metallurgy) consists of generally equi-axed irregularshaped Ni particles 0À2-0À5 microns in size, occurring singly or in clusters up to 5 microns in size and having attached to their surfaces discrete refractory oxide (e.g. oxides of Th, Y, Ce, Al, Zr, Mg, Be, Si, Hf, Ti, U, La or mixtures thereof) particles below 100 millimicrons in size the composition being non-pyrophoric in the asproduced state. The composition is preferably prepared by the method of application 4241/66 (Specification 1,137,932) and a preferred composition contains 2-4% by volume ThO 2 having a particle size of 5-30 millimicrons. Examples refer to the production of wrought strip from the powder by processes involving compaction, hot working and repeated cold working and annealing. For making alloy products the powder may be mixed with other metal powders such as Cr, Mo or W.
