A sprung socket is particularly intended to allow the electrical connection of relays, fuse holders etc. to printed circuit boards in the electrical system of motor vehicles. The connection provides a strong mechanical joint and low electrical resistance, the latter due to soldering of the socket to the printed circuit board conducting track. The socket consists of a strip of sprung metal about 0.35mm thick folded into a 'U' the sides (2) of which are cut and pressed out to provide a snug grip on any inserted male connector (4). The base (12) of the 'U' is inserted through the PCB (8) and flattened so that it overlaps the conducting strip to which it is to be soldered.
|
