The deposits of sediment accumulating behind a dam are continuously removed by means of a mud pump. This is suspended from a floating platform moved over the area behind the dam, using a sweep cable operated by electrically controlled winches on each bank. The mud is passed down a suspended pipe (12) and discharged (23) in front of the drainage outlet (6) situated at the bottom of the dam wall (1). Compressed air or water is injected (30, 31) to dilute the mud and solid objects fall into a pan (28) in front of a filter grating (27). The pan can be raised (29) to the surface for emptying.
|
