Reciprocating engine using two fuels - has injected propyl:mercaptan fuel compressed adiabatically for burning with sulphur

The engine has a piston reciprocating in a cylinder as in a conventional diesel engine. At the bottom of the stroke a quantity of propylmercaptan is admitted into the cylinder and compressed adiabatically (1-3). A quantity of sulphur is then introduced. Because of the temp. existing in the cylinder it changes its state. This produces a further rise of pressure (4) which is followed by an adiabatic expansion to a pressure below the starting pressure. A further amount of propylmercaptan is admitted at the bottom of the stroke to bring the pressure back to the starting point (1). In this way an Otto cycle is superimposed on a Carnot cycle to give a thermodynamically reversible process.
