To discharge impurities from fibre suspensions intended for paper making, there is a chamber (8), in which a filter basket (7) is located. A vortex tube (1) which can be shut off opens into the upper end of the filter basket, and the lower end of the filter basket is connected to a dirt outlet port (5) which can be shut off. A scavenging-water feed line (9) opens into an annular space surrounding the filter basket (7) in the chamber (8). A run-off line (11) extends away from the chamber (8). Impurities which occur are trapped in the filter basket (7). The scavenging water is taken off before the dirt outlet port (5) is opened. The water present in the chamber (8) can thereby be recovered and the water consumption consequently reduced considerably. <IMAGE>
