A photographic developer is in the form of two solutions which, when mixed, yield a developer having a pH above 10, one solution comprising 1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidone dissolved in a water-miscible, water-containing organic solvent, in which 1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidone is at least 25% w/v soluble at 25‹C., and the other comprising an aqueous solution containing a polyhydric phenol such as hydroquinone, alkali such as sodium or potassium hydroxide or carbonate, an inorganic sulphite, an antifoggant and a weak acid such as boric acid as buffering agent. This solution also may contain N-hydroxyethyl-ethylene-diamine-N, N<1>, N<1> -triacetic acid trisodium salt. The organic solvent in the first solution may be formic acid or dimethyl formamide. |
