Fire escape staircase structure - has multi-circuit water cooling system circulating through hollow frame members

The staircase is for use outside the main walls of a building. The four vertical steel frame members (1, 2) carry transverse members (3) which support the steps. Cooling liquid is circulated through the structure. Multiple cooling circuits in a vertical sequence are employed to avoid development of a large head of water in the structure. The flange joints (4) serve to connect sections of the structure and to isolate the individual circuits. Throttle flanges are incorporated in the angled joints of the transverse members (3).
