Apparatus for paring sheets 47, Fig. 3, from a foam plastic body 31 comprises a band blade 45 movable relative to the body, wherein the cutting edge of the band blade compresses the foam body away from the sheet being pared. As described, the body of foam plastic is supported on mandrels, as at 26, and rotated by a drive 23, the blade 45 being moved progressively into engagement with the body as it is rotated. The cutting assembly may comprise a band blade (81, Fig. 5) and support assembly, a spacer (86) and guides (83, 85) and stiffeners (94, 100) provided with passageways to permit air flow for cooling the blade. Slabs, planks or boards of foam may be pared into sheets by a blade moved through the foam body. |
