Lateral guidance system is designed for multilayer recording surfaces esp. continuous stationary whose edges are connected together at their leading points by a carrier web. The support rail (2) on the printing machine frame has a displaceable guide plate (1) whose free end is directed towards the platen (3). Laterally positioned stepped projections have their first step (15) guiding the multilayer recording surface and their second step (16) resting lightly on the platen surface. The guide plate (1) engages around the support rail (2) in the form of a three-point mounting one of whose clamp parts is rigid while the other counter-part is flexible.
