1,088,424. Manufacturing oil-filled cables. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 29, 1965 [June 2, 1964], No. 22797/64. Heading H1A. In the manufacture of oil-filled electric cable a plurality of lengths of core are dried by heating in respective vacuum vessels separate from the sheathing apparatus, then in each in turn the vacuum in each is broken with dry gas or air and the core quickly transferred to an unheated evacuable holding vessel connected to the sheathing apparatus. The holding vessel is emptied of the dry gas by high capacity pumps and the dried, evacuated core is sheathed with lead. Impregnation of the core with oil may be carried out in the holding vessel. Use of one sheathing apparatus and holding vessel with a number of drying vessels is stated to make possible a larger output of cable than in arrangements where the drying vessel is directly connected to the sheathing apparatus. |
