Material to be packaged is fed directly to open containers 8, Fig. 1, by an endless belt conveyer 1 having an upper horizontal section and a substantially vertical lower section extending downwards towards the mouth of the container, a second substantially vertical endless belt conveyer 10 opposite the lower section of the first conveyer directing any material thrown from the first conveyer by its high speed downwards into the container. Weighing devices 2 deposit weighed amounts of material on the horizontal section. When sticky material is being packaged a frame 13 scrapes the material from the belts 1 and 10. Empty containers 8 are fed into the filling position by a device 9 operating in timed relation with the weighing devices 2, and after filling the device 9 removes the filled containers. Additional belts 14, 15 (Fig. 2, not shown), may be provided to complete an enclosed feeding conduit leading downwards to the container mouth. The belts are displaced relatively to one another in such a way that one edge of each belt faces the surface of an immediately adjacent belt, in order to make it possible to vary the cross-sectional area of the enclosed feeding conduit. The rollers over which the belts run are so mounted as to be pivotable and axially displaceable, so that the form of the conduit may be adjusted to suit the material being packaged. The speed of the conveyer belt 1 is continuously variable. The conveyer belt 1 may consist of two parts, the first part being horizontal, and receiving the material from the weighing devices, and the second part sloping down towards the container mouth. The horizontal section, which is provided with projections extending across its width in order to separate the weighed quantities of material, is driven intermittently, while the inclined section is driven continuously. |
