[Also in Division D1] An electric flash boiler type steam iron has a coating, e.g. of aluminium, secured to the top of the reservoir and comprising a passage 28 leading from a filling port at the front of the iron to the reservoir, a bore 29 receiving a control rod 30 for the flash boiler valve 17 and a bore 35 forming an inlet passage from the reservoir through a check valve 38 to a pump cylinder containing a piston 46 and connected by an outlet passage 56 to a spray nozzle 50. Piston 46, e.g. of synthetic plastic, is biased upwardly and has protrusions 49 which engage beneath a portion of the handle 24 to hold the piston in the bore. The spray head 50 has a downwardly inclined orifice 50A and comprises a ball valve 72 biased by a spring engaging a disc 53 with arcuate peripheral recesses (54) Fig. 4 (not shown). In operation, piston 46 is depressed and raised to draw water from the reservoir past a ball valve 36 and on being depressed again forces the water out past ball valve 72 and through recesses 54 to leave orifice 50A as a fine spray. |
