<p>The tool expands the stem of a tubular tapped captive nut so as to secure it in place on a component, and comprises a main portion (11) with a smooth-walled bore (12) running in the lengthwise direction and of polygonal external section to take a spanner etc. At one end, the bore is of smaller diameter (13), an annular shoulder being formed (14) where the two sections join. An oblong component (22) fits in the bore, having a top section threaded to take a nut (26), and a bottom and smaller diameter one (24) screwing into the captive nut (28), with a shoulder between the two bearing against that in the main portion. A coupling device, typically a pin (30) fixed to the oblong component and working in a slot (16) in the main portion, prevents the component turning in relation to the latter as the nut (26) is tightened to expand the captive nut stem.</p> |
