The coal cutting machine is for steeply declining seams. The cutting machine includes a conveyor, esp. a scraper chain haulage with coal leveller. A ripping roller is guided along the coal face. The ripping roller drive is mounted on a sliding carriage bridging the conveyor. The ripping roller is created as a tapered roller corresponding to the incline of the seam to be worked. The sliding carriage is trapezium-shaped and angled at at least half the taper angle. The working upper side of the ripping roller runs in parallel to seam roof. The worked coal is thrown out from its lower side in a plane horizontal to the conveyor. The cutting machine is inclined at the most at half the angle of inclination of the coal seam.
