Absorbent device comprises a layer for absorbing liqs., an impermeable backing and a cover with numerous shell-like partially spherical cavities penetrating the absorbent layer, each provided with an opening which closes on wetting, to stop flow back. The covering layer consists of a sheet of polyethylene with a thickness of .025-0.050mm; it is welded around its edges to the backing sheet, also made of polyethylene. The absorbent layer is arranged between these sheets and consists of the usual cellulose flock. The cover is provided with cavities arranged close together; each has a shell-shaped wall with a dia. of 5-0.5 mm and an opening at the bottom. When the absorbent material becomes impregnated with liq. it swells, the shell is flattened and the opening is closed; any flowing back of the liq. from the absorbent layer is thus prevented. The liq. to be absorbed can easily reach the absorbent material without any risk of flowing back. The cover sheet can be produced continuously and cheaply between rotating rollers, pref. heated. |
