1518344 Transfer printing using plurality of webs SUBLISTATIC HOLDING SA 29 July 1975 [31 July 1974 (2)] 13980/77 Divided out of 1518343 Heading B6C Wide substrates are transfer-printed using a plurality of patterned webs of lesser width by aligning them side-by-side in registration with the aid of sensing and control devices, and then feeding them with the substrate into a transfer station. In the embodiment of Fig. 1, patterned webs 13, 25 from respective supply rolls 12 in creels 10, 11 are fed to tensioning rollers 18, 17 and 28, 29, being aligned longitudinally and laterally by registering devices 19, 30 and tension control devices 20, 31, the edges of the webs are overlapped and they are driven together by rollers 21, 22 to transfer station 44 for sublimation printing on substrate 45. A cutter 23 may act on one edge of web 13; alternatively, both webs may have cut edges or may be cut simultaneously while aligned beyond drive rollers 21, 22, so that the webs may abut. If the transfer webs have sufficiently precise patterns, no registration marks are necessary, if provided, marks may be sensed photoelectrically, magnetically or pneumatically. |
