Problems of measurement of medical samples after centrifuging are reduced by mounting tubes in a container with graduated scales alongside the tubes. A magnifying glass permits accurate readings to be taken. Columns (1, 2, 4) of liquid samples in tubes (14) are mounted separately in a rotor (12) for centrifuging. Graduated scales (12s) are located alongside each sample tube (14) in a fixed location wrt the joint (14t) between parts (14a, 14b) of the sample. An optical magnifying glass (18p) is located in a transparent cover (18) and can be positioned by a lateral arm acting as a stop on the casing. This facilitates reading of the scales after centrifuging.
