A method of treating a lesion in a non-human mammal comprises applying thereto a material which is a cellular foetal adjunct of the birth or parturition of said mammal or is derived from such an adjunct, the foetal adjunct having been treated by deep freezing or lyophilisation to resist deterioration on storage, having been stored and having been reactivated after storage and prior to application. Typical cellular foetal adjuncts specified include the amnion, amniotic fluid surrounding the foetus, the yolk-sac associated with the foetus, and the allantois, umbilical, chorionic and placental tissues, and placental blood. The cellular foetal adjunct is preferably applied as a tissue graft directly to the lesion. In a modification, a tissue derived from a non-human mammal other than the mammal to be treated is applied as a graft over the graft of foetal adjunct tissue. The therapeutic material derived from the cellular foetal adjunct may be derived by implanting the foetal adjunct in a non-human mammal other than the mammal to be treated and either of the same or a different species, and recovering secondary cells, e.g. lymphatic fluids, or blood, therefrom. |
