1518397 Semiconductor devices AMP Inc 23 Oct 1976 44130/76 Heading H1K [Also in Division H2] A light emitting diode 26, having electrodes on opposite sides 28, 30, is mounted in an aperture, formed in a flexible cable comprising a metal conductor 14 on a flexible insulating substrate 10, so that the opposite sides 28, 30 are supported by and electrically connected to the conductor 14. A transparent epoxy 32, which may include a lens or reflector system, may enclose the diode 26. The diode 26 may also be soldered or bonded by conductive epoxy to the conductor 14. Apertures in the form of slots may be simultaneously formed in a number of parallel metal conductors and underlying substrate by the use of a tool having a castellated blade, Fig. 1, (not shown). Also, the slot edges may have a sawtooth configuration.
