Production of dialkylaluminum hydrides

Dialkylaluminum hydrides are produced by subjecting a mixed aluminum alkyl having the formula R2AlR' to pyrolysis. R is methyl, ethyl, n-alkyl or an alkyl group which has no hydrogen atoms on the carbon atom beta to the aluminum. R' is an alpha - or beta branched alkyl group having the formula <IMAGE> in which one R'' is hydrogen and the other is alkyl and R''' is alkyl.
