<p>1463169 Perfluoroalkylthioalkyl silanes and siloxanes MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 1 April 1974 [2 April 1973] 14437/74 Headings C3T and C3S Novel organosiloxanes contain at least one unit R f -S-CHY-SiR n O 3-n/2 wherein R f is a fluoroaliphatic radical, R is an optionally inertly substituted methyl, ethyl or phenyl radical, Y is H, Cl, CH 3 , CH 2 Cl, C 6 H 5 , R f S or R f CH 2 and n is 0, 1 or 2, any other units present containing only groups R. They may be prepared by the free-radical-initiated reaction of a fluoroaliphatic sulphenyl chloride with the corresponding polysiloxane, using, e.g. U.V. light or an azo or peroxy catalyst, or by hydrolysis of the corresponding hydrolysable silanes. (Described and claimed in Specification 1,463,170). In Examples 1 and 6-17 CF 3 SCl, C 7 F 15 SCl or HC 8 F 16 SCl is reacted with cyclic (Me 2 SiO) 4 , Me 3 SiOSiMe 3 , a dimethylpolysiloxane gum or oil, a dimethyl-phenylmethyl-polysiloxane gum or a methylvinyl-polysiloxane gum, in CH 2 Cl 2 under the influence of U.V. light, azobisisobutyronitrile or benzoyl peroxide. In Examples 2-5 polymers and copolymers are prepared containing 25-100 mol. per cent of units carrying groups CF 3 SCH 2 -, or C 4 F 9 SCH 2 - with 0, 1 or 2 Me, Ph or Et radicals, and 0-75 mol. per cent of units MeViSiO, Me 2 SiO, Me 3 SiO 0À5 , C 6 H 11 SiO 1À5 and/or SiO 2 , by hydrolysis of the corresponding halo- or alkoxy-silanes. In Example 16 a composition containing a polysiloxane gum of units and Me 2 SiO, fumed silica, ferric oxide and zinc oxide is cured at 130‹ and 150‹ C. to give a rubber; in Example 11 a similar siloxane of lower MW is cured with tetramethylguanidine.</p> |
