The record and replay head, for magnetic video tape, is mounted in a rotating cylinder over which the tape travels. A wedge-shaped region of air above atmospheric pressure is generated with its tip pointing towards the head's (6) air gap (9). This region of higher pressure raises the tape from the head when the cylinder rotates and prevents noise 'accumulating' when a video tape is reproduced electrically many times. The region of overpressure is located between the tape and the sloping face (15) of the head and extends to the head's gap.
|
