In parent patent, NOx and SOx are removed from waste gases formed when burning fuels in industrial plant. In this addn. a single scrubbing stage is carried out using one wash liq. for the simultaneous removal of NOx and aSOx, by (a) the addn. of thiosulphate to he alkaline wash liq. described in parent patent; (b) adding halides to promote the formation of thionate; (c) pptn. of CaSO3 to promote hydrolysis of the thionate; (d) adding a buffer to prevent the decomposition of the thiosulphate. Used for simultaneous removal of NOx and SOx.
