A sports surface, esp. for tennis courts, comprises slabs of sawn stone or concrete supported by elastic strips on a firm base with sufficient clearance between and beneath the slabs to permit rapid drainage. The strips may be of rubber, plastics or metallic material. The base may have a raised surround lined with elastic seals to keep the slabs in place. Alternatively the slabs may be supported on foundations of compacted sand by an intermediate layer of rot-proof, flexible material such as 'high density polystyrene'. Typically slabs are 1-3m2 area and the supports are 1-5mm thick and placed 20-25cm apart.
|
