The radio receiver has frequency selective loss compensation. It has a variable transfer function circuit controlled by a loss detection circuit. The receiver has an aerial (10) and an HV circuit (1). It also has an IF amplifier (2-8), a demodulator (9) and a base band amplifier (9). AN equalising circuit (3) has a linearly variable transfer function controlled by the loss compensation circuit (4-8). The loss compensation circuit comprises two pass band fillers (4, 5), two amplitude detectors (6, 7) and a differential amplifier (8). It operates by feedback to give compensation.
