In order to produce the force which opposes the weight, the scales have a, for example hollow-cylindrical, permanent magnet (1) to which means for compensation of the influence of temperature fluctuations on the magnetic field are allocated. The compensation means comprise at least two correction elements (7, 9) which act independently of one another, at least one correction element (7, 8) being arranged close to an outer surface and at least one further correction element (9) being arranged close to an inner surface of the permanent magnet (1). Parallel-connected elements, which consist of material which is magnetically conductive as a function of temperature, can be used, for example, as correction elements. Since the temperature on the outer surface of the permanent magnet is generally different from that on the inner surface of the same, more accurate temperature compensation is achieved in this way than using only one correction element which does not take into account the temperature differences in the case of a non-homogeneous temperature field. <IMAGE>
