The milling machine can be used for spectacle lenses and a motor-driven, diamond studded dish disc is used as the cutting tool. A workpiece acceptor or carrier allows the workpiece to be moved past the rotating tool on a given path. The workpiece carrier (28) is arranged on a cross table whose slides, which are movably linearly guided in an X- and Y coordinate system are switchable by controllable feed devices. The workpiece carrier can turn about an axis directed normally to the X- and Y-coordinate system. It can be so advanced by a controllable servo device that a special angular position of the workpiece carrier w.r.t. the tool is provided for each X-Y coordinate point.
