The clutch pedal lever (2) pivots on a fixed bearing shaft (5) to actuate the clutch mechanism by means of a connecting rod (15). The connecting rod is length adjustable to compensate for clutch lining wear. The adjustment mechanism consists of a tensioning nut (12) provided with internal left and right hand threads. The tensioning nut joins the connecting rod (15) to the clutch pedal lever via a clevis joint (7). The tensioning nut carries a toothed wheel (17) whose periphery extends through a slot (20). The slot is provided in a housing (16) surrounding the toothed wheel and fixed to the clevis joint. A hook shaped striker (22) is fixed to the clutch pedal shaft (2) in such a position that the striker is below the toothed wheel in the rest position. The housing carries a sprung pawl (23) to work with a toothed section to prevent unintended movement of the adjuster nut.
