<p>Sign strips are applied on road surfaces by (1) applying a thin layer of a hydrophilic wetting agent on the surface, (2) applying a second layer of a hot thermoplastic primer compsn. in paste form, the compsn. being compatible with the wetting agent and being capable of gradually solidifying to quickly reach a viscosity of 103-104 cP, and (3) pressing a prefabricated sign strip on the thermoplastic layer. The thermoplastic compsn hardens ultimately to reach a viscosity of >=105 cP in 30-60 secs. The thermoplastic compsn. pref. comprises bituminous materials and pref. >=60 wt.% thermoplastics material, and is applied on the prepd. road surface at a temp. near the m. pt. these materials.</p> |
