The container comprises a lid (1) made of a foil material, such as aluminium foil, which lid has a circumferential fold (3) which is formed by deep-drawing and forms tear-off lines in the region of its lateral edges, along which tear-off lines the circumferential fold (3) can be torn off by means of a tab (10). The intention is for the lid of the container to be able to be torn off automatically along a predetermined path by means of the tab. The tab forms a separate part and is attached to the lid material between the tear-off lines directly on the fold (3). The connection force between the tab and the lid should exceed the tearing force. For this purpose, the connection can be made by means of hot-crosslinking adhesive or by means of ultrasound. The tearing line can be formed as a line of weakness, in which case the tab can consist of flexible material. The tab can also be of rigid construction and have a cutting edge by means of which the tearing line is formed by setting the rigid tab upright. <IMAGE>
