The automatic readjusting device for brake cylinders with a piston (2) and a piston rod (3) which couples the latter to a brake linkage has a conical annular spring washer (5), through which the piston rod (3) passes, within the cylinder housing (1), near to the cylinder cover (9). The annular spring washer (5), which is mounted in a manner which allows displacement by the set braking travel in the cylinder housing (1), is displaceable on the piston rod (3) counter to the direction of the braking force but jams when a force is exerted on the piston rod (3) in the opposite direction. On the piston rod (3) there is furthermore an annular sliding element (6) which can be pressed against the annular spring washer (5) in the direction of the braking force by means of a lever (7) which can be actuated arbitrarily from outside. When the sliding element (6) is pressed against the annular spring washer (5), the washer is unjammed from the piston rod (3), allowing the piston rod (3) to be pushed back counter to the direction of the braking force as required to reset the readjusting device. <IMAGE>
