PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell separator material having high conductivity and electrical conduction endurance; and a method for manufacturing such a fuel cell separator material.SOLUTION: A fuel cell separator material 1 comprises: a base material 2 made of pure titanium or a titanium alloy; and a mix layer 3 formed on the base material, and arranged by mixing a titanium oxide and a carbon black 4. The titanium oxide includes crystal rutile. According to X-ray analysis by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy about the carbon bonding state in the mix layer 3, no less than 70% of the carbon detected is present as elementary substance of carbon black 4 having C-C bonds. The carbon concentration at a position of a depth of 10 nm from the outermost surface is 10 atom% or less. A method for manufacturing a fuel cell separator material 1 comprises: a coating step S2 for coating the surface of the base material 2 with the carbon black 4; and a thermal treatment step S3 for performing a thermal treatment on the base material 2 subjected to the coating step S2 under a low oxygen partial pressure condition where the oxygen partial pressure is 25 Pa or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 |
