1517340 Tanker hull forms GULF OIL CORP 8 Sept 1975 [30 Dec 1974] 36846/75 Heading B7A A tanker comprises a hull with a minimum mean ballast draft depth line 38 which is defined by a change in width of the cross-section of the hull at the mid-body, the volume enclosed by the hull above the line 38 being greater than the volume below the line, the width of the mid-body being substantially uniform above the line 38, and progressively decreasing from the line 38 to the bottom 42 of the hull, the hull being partitioned to define compartments for cargo and water ballast, the volume enclosed by the hull below the line 38 being substantially the sum of the volume displacement of the vessel plus the capacity of the water ballast compartments. The mid-body cut away portions 50, 52 can be staight or curved. The tanker can include solid ballast, e.g. concrete. |
