1,052,284. Lactams. STAMICARBON N.V. May 7, 1964 [May 14, 1963], No. 18949/64. Heading C2C. A lactam is prepared by reacting a cyclo - aliphatic ketoxime hydrochloride with hydrogen chloride at between 50‹ and 125‹ C. and decomposing the lactam hydrochloride formed. Alternatively, the oxime hydrochloride may contain more than the equimolecular amount of hydrogen chloride and the reaction carried out without further addition of hydrogen chloride. The reaction may be in a liquid diluent, e.g. a hydrocarbon, or in a non-aqueous solvent in which both the oxime- and lactam-hydrochlorides are soluble. Lactam hydrochloride may be present at the start of the reaction. A catalyst may be used, e.g. phosgene, 1,3,5- trichloro - 5 - triazine, 2,4 - dibromopyrimidine, 2 - chloro - azocycloalkene or 2 - chloroazoalkene. Solvents used are nitro-hydrocarbons, halogenated hydrocarbons and nitriles. Examples refer to the preparation of caprolactam, oenantholactam and caprylolactam - |
