A packaging apparatus comprises a rotatable turret 2 having an even number of container receiving stations 4, 5 alternate one 4 of which are adjusted to receive empty containers, e.g. flat folded containers fed by means associated with each station 4 from, e.g. a hopper 1 overlying the turret. The stations 4 preferably include means for erecting the flat folded containers and maintaining them in this condition. The other stations 5 are adapted to receive filled containers which are unclosed and unsealed at one end only, the filled containers being delivered to the turret 2 by a conveyer 6 which moves in timed relation to the turret 2 and each station 5 including means operative to engage and withdraw filled containers from the conveyer 6. In the apparatus shown, a container closing apparatus 7 is provided with a continuous series of carriages 8, 9 which are adapted to receive erected containers and filled containers, respectively from the turret. In their passage through the closing apparatus one end of each container is closed and sealed. Thus the apparatus 7 discharges on to a conveyer 11 alternately an unfilled container having one end closed and sealed and a completely sealed, filled container, the latter being pushed from the conveyer 11 by a timed kicker mechanism 12. The unfilled containers then pass along conveyer 11 to a filling station 14 at which the contents are introduced into the container and then are deposited on a delivery conveyer 15 for delivery to the conveyer 6. A timing means 16 is provided at the delivery end of the conveyer 15 for releasing containers one at a time for engagement with the conveyer 6. |
