1437752 Temperature indicators for accumulators VARTA BATTERIE AG 12 Sept 1974 [13 Sept 1973] 39868/74 Heading G1D [Also in in Division H1] The temperature of an accumulator is indicated by means of a substance which is provided on an externally visible part thereof and which, at a predetermined temperature changes its colour, colour intensity, luminescence or phosphorescence which change reverses on subsequent reversal of temperature change. The substance may be a dye which changes, colour at a particular temperature, e.g. cobalt and nickel salts, zinc oxide, Co (NO 3 ) 2 2C 6 H 12 N 4 IOH 2 O, which at 75‹C changes from red to purple, PbI 2 from yellow to red at 130‹C, Ag2 [HgI 4 ] yellow to red at 45‹C, Cu 2 [HgI 4 ] red to brown at 67‹C, and Ag Cu [HgI 4 ] which changes from yellow to orange at 35 C and orange to red at 40‹C. A change in colour intensity is experienced by alkali halides. Liquid crystals may also be employed and more than one substance may be incorporated in the accumulator when more than one temperature is experienced by different portions thereof. The substance may be provided on the housing terminal pillar, or catalyst stopper of the accumulator, and may be admixed with the material from which the housing or catalyst stopper is made. |
