<p>Device for adding substances, esp. alloy addns., to a mass of liq. metal, by feeding the substances into a molten stream of metal, esp. a stream flowing from a converer into a ladle, where the substances travel down a chute. The chute can be driven from a position of rest where it is under a cover to a working position were teh back en dof the chute is under a feeder and its front end is very nea rthe stream of molten metal. The cover pref. consists of a platform mounted alongside the converter, and the back end of the chute is pref. fixed by a hinge to a trolley driven along the underside of the platform. Burners are pref. located under the platform and used to heat the chute when required. The chute can be loaded from more than one hopper via sloping pipes which carry the substances to the chute; alternatively, conveyor belts can be used to load substances into the chute. Alloying addns. etc. can be directly added to a molten metal stream leaving a converter to ensure rapid diffusion and mixing; and the device is fitted with a heat shield.</p> |
