<p>A surfactant contains carboxyalkylated alkyl polyethers having formula R-(OC2H4)x-O-(CH2)yCOOM, (I), (where R is 8-18C alkyl; x is integer 1-12; y is 1 (prefd.) or 2; and M is H, an Na-, Ka-, NH4-, mono-, di- or triethanol-ammonium-, mono-, di- or trialkylammonium-, Mg- or Ca cation or a mixt. thereof). The surfactant contains >=2 homologues having polyoxyethylene chains of different lengths, each of which can make up =70 wt.% of mixt. Free fatty alcohol content is 6 (4)%.
