Inter-electrode spacer for electronic tube - is made of semiconductor material and joined by metal blocks to electrodes

An electronic tube for picture intensification has inter-electrode spacers of semi-conductor material. The spacers do not disturb appreciably the electric field and contribute distorsion of the picture. The spacer (22) is of semi-conductor material. The spacers (22) are joined to the photocathode screen (11) by a small block of aluminium (21). The aluminium block (21) fits in a slot (19) of phosphor layer (17). The spacers (22) is also joined to a wafer (24) of secondary emission microchannels. The joint is by a block of lead (25). The spacer (22), metal blocks (21, 25), wafer (24) and photocathode (11) are assembled by thermo-compression of the assembly.
